Goals Soccer Centres has appointed leisure industry veteran Nick Basing as its deputy chairman.

As part of his duties the 53-year-old will chair the five-a-side football firm’s nomination committee and sit on its remuneration and audit committee.

Mr Basing is also to replace current chairman Keith Edelman, who has been in that role since 2013, at the company’s annual general meeting in May next year.

Mr Edelman said: "Nick has a proven track record of managing and operating successful leisure companies and I look forward to working closely with him to ensure a smooth transition."

Mr Basing has worked in senior roles at the likes of Granada, Goodwood, First Leisure Corporation, Rank, Unilever and Paramount Restaurants.

Among his non-executive roles is a post on The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, which runs the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
