Royal Bank of Scotland Group has appointed a new non-executive director to its board.

The bank confirmed that Mike Rogers, chief executive of mutual insurer LV=, will join on 26 January.

Howard Davies, chairman of RBS, said: “I am pleased that Mike has agreed to join us. His extensive experience of retail banking and financial services will strengthen the board. My colleagues and I look forward to working with him.”

Mr Rogers spent almost 20 years in small business and retail banking with Barclays, including a stint in Australia , before joining the then Liverpool Victoria in 2006, introducing its new LV= name and identity within a few months.

The board, where Sir Howard Davies took over as chairman in June, currently has seven non-executive directors, three of whom are female.
