Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 91 store heifers in Lockerbie yesterday to a top of 267.2p per kg and an average of 207.3p (+2.3p on the previous sale), while 85 store bullocks peaked at 274.6p and levelled at 203.8p (-9.6p). A pen of six store bulls fetched 201.5p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 6 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1266 per head and 227p per kg to average £1173.66 and 211.5p.
In the rough ring 45 beef cows averaged 119.7p and 146 dairy cows levelled at 81.5p. Eighteen bulls averaged 118.9p.
The firm also had 11 dairy cattle forward when poorer types proved very difficult to cash. Top price on the day was £1180 for a British Friesian heifer with the final average levelling at £894.28.
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had 2590 store hoggs and feeding ewes forward at their weekly sale in Longtown yesterday. Top prices and averages for selected breeds of hoggs. Texels to £89 and averaged £66.58; Suffolks £80 and £64.46; Greyface £77.50 and £61.04; Hill Cheviots £74.50 and £50.01; Blackfaces £74 and £49.11.
