LATVIAN government officials have visited Scotland to glean expert tax advice.

Delegates including Raimonds Aleksejenko, Latvia’s deputy state secretary of economy, have visited Edinburgh-based consultancy Jumpstart, which helps businesses get tax relief on their research and development spending through HMRC’s R&D tax credit scheme.

The firm, which has more than 1,000 clients, has helped to recover more than £65 million in R&D tax relief and has identified more than £330m in R&D expenditure.

The Latvian delegation were seeking guidance on how to improve the take-up of the R&D tax relief scheme in Latvia.
