Work is under way on a £20m four-star hotel on Edinburgh’s last remaining Old Town gap site. The 98-room boutique hotel is the first venture in the capital by European operator Carlton Hotel Collection, and is being delivered in partnership with the council's development spin-out EDI Group. The site on Market Street has been derelict for 50 years and been a flagship project for EDI under its director Eric Adair. EDI chairman Councillor Gavin Barrie said it was a “significant moment for the city’s tourism and leisure industry”. The hotel is due to open in spring 2018.
