Hew Balfour, chief executive of Havelock Europa for 21 years until ousted in 2010, has rejoined the board as a non-executive.

Ex-Scots Guard Mr Balfour, 64, diversified Havelock’s traditional shop-fitting business into banking then in-store display, and in 2001 into school furniture with the acquisition of neighbouring firm ESAMcIntosh.

He stepped down as Scotland’s longest-serving chief executive of a listed company after a torrid period for the group, and is currently a non-executive director of freight company SAS Holdings, utility Ebico, and The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
