A TECH business that specialises in repairing broken computer devices and smashed phone screens has posted record revenues of £4.2 million as it celebrates 20 years in business.

Edinburgh-based SimplyFixIt has grown to eight outlets in Edinburgh and Glasgow employing 34 staff, and is planning further expansion.

General manager Jason Eccles said the boom in consumer technology – including smartphones, tablets and laptops – has fuelled the company’s growth.

“When we started out selling personal computers (PCs) in 1996, who could have predicted that within two decades we’d all have incredibly powerful computers in our pockets that are constantly connected to the internet?,” he said. “It’s an amazing time to be working in this sector.”

In the past year the company carried out over 25,000 repairs with 30 per cent of those on Apple computers.

A further 20 per cent of its business is phone and tablet repairs and Mr Eccles predicted that would only grow.

“Most homes still have a PC or laptop, but the reality is that for most people the convenience of a phone or tablet means that is now likely to be their primary device,” he said.“The Apple effect has been profound.”

He added: “The sector is buoyant and as a result we are likely to grow further. We are constantly looking for new sites and look at two or three possibilities per month.”
