DATA analytics company Aquila Insight has doubled turnover for a fourth consecutive year.

The company, whose clients include British Airways, HomeServe, Sony Mobile, Tesco Bank and Swinton Insurance, booked revenue turnover to £4.2 million in its latest financial year.

It is now targeting further expansion by opening its first office overseas, joining its existing premises in Edinburgh, Derby and London. The company, which said it its capitalising on the explosion in data innovation in business, declined to specify which overseas locations it is homing in on.

Staff numbers are continuing to grow at a rate of 12 analysts every quarter in the UK, said the firm, whose headcount had grown from its two founding partners in 2012 to more than 75 employees.

Its most recent contract wins include British Airways, where Aquila is working alongside the airline’s in-house analytics team to drive its customer relationship marketing strategy.

Warwick Beresford-Jones, who launched Aquila with John Brodie, said: “Big data is forecast to add over £241 billion to the economy by 2020 and the UK has the opportunity to be a world leader in big data and analytics.

“From the start we have focused on delivering a commercial advantage to all of our clients and have built a strong reputation in the industry. Big data has been much hyped in recent years but boards are now demanding real results.

“Ultimately, all organisations want to know what’s happening with their customers, what is going to change and what they need to do to be successful in future. We do that quickly and effectively, helping them to answer with accuracy that age-old business question: what three things should I be doing today to improve the business?”
