WALLETS Marts had a small show of 50 store cattle in Castle Douglas yesterday when heifers sold to £1190 per head and 238.3p per kg to average £752.41 and 210.5p, while bullocks peaked at £995 and 235.4p to level at £882.14 and 222.6p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1922 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £100 per head and 220.9p per kg to average 185.7p (-19.8p on the week - but 25.6p dearer than the corresponding sale last year).
There was also a large show, for this time of year, of 1196 cast sheep when heavy ewes proved harder to cash and sold to £127 for Texels, while Blackfaces met a similar trade to last week and peaked at £56.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 41 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 239p and an average of 213.4p (+4.6p), while 30 prime bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 208.6p (-0.5p). Four prime bulls sold to 222p and averaged 181p (+13p).
In the rough ring 47 beef cows averaged 131.7p (+2.4p).
There were also 1148 prime lambs that sold to £105 and 224.5p to average £83 and 199p (-3p).
The 579 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £127 for Texels and average £67, while light ewes peaked at £77 for Cheviots and levelled at £50.
The firm also sold 18 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 221.5p and an average of 189.4p (-23.1p), while 27 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 206.5p and levelled at 193.5p (+5.2p). Three prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 147.5p and averaged 140.5p (-5.2p). Forty-eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 215.5p and averaged 181.6p (+14p), while 52 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 169.5p and levelled at 131.6p (-3.5p).
In the rough ring 110 beef cows averaged 130.9p (-2.1p) and 206 dairy cows levelled at 96.7p (+3.4p). Ten bulls averaged 124p (-3p).
There were also 2096 prime lambs that sold to £107.80 and 254p to average 198.2p (-9.2p).
The 163 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £109.50 for Texels.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 26 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 244p and an average of 224p (+3.1p), while 6 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 212p and levelled at 198.7p (+2.2p). Eight prime, B&W bullocks sold to 139.5p and averaged 135.2p (-2.4p).
In the rough ring 32 beef cows averaged 128p (-4p) and 26 dairy cows levelled at 95p (+2.5p).
The firm also sold 1125 prime lambs to a top of £107 and 225.6p to average 193.8p (-9.3p).
The 435 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £124.50 for Texels and £54.50 for Blackfaces.
