C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 104 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 228.1p per kg and an average of 197.9p (-2.1p on the fortnight), while 127 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 207.9p (-1.2p). Forty-seven store, B&W bullocks sold to 200p and averaged 139.2p (no comparison), while nine store bulls peaked at 268.8p and levelled at 172p.

United Auctions had 5357 store lambs and feeding sheep forward at Stirling yesterday. Top prices and averages for selected breeds of store lambs: Texels to £75.50 and averaged £62.26 (+£2.05 on the week); Suffolks £71 and £64.22 (+£1.32); BTex £72 and £66.78 (+£8.06); Mules £65.50 and £59.13 (+£4.01); Cheviots £68.50 and £60.91 (+£4.42); Blackfaces £50.50 and £39.39 (+5p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2289 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £100 per head and 208.3p per kg to average 172.8p (-10.1p on the week but up 35.8p on the corresponding sale last year).

There were also 1218 cast sheep forward when all classes were again cheaper on the week with ewes selling to £133 for Texels and £58 for Blackfaces.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 52 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 247p and an average of 226p (+6.7p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 245p and levelled at 223.4p (no change). Five prime bulls sold to 215p and averaged 194p.

In the rough ring 50 beef cows sold to 185p and averaged 124p (n/c), while a couple of dairy cows levelled at 121p.

There were also 2215 prime lambs forward that sold to £95 and 211.1p to average £74 and 176.3p (-11p).

A fair show of 783 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £109 for Texels and average £76, while light ewes peaked at £72 for Cheviots and levelled at £53.

The firm also sold 11 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 220.5p and an average of 193.9p (-39.3p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 235.5p and levelled at 201.9p (-1.5p). Eight prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 154.5p and averaged 147.7p (-17p). Thirty-seven prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 220.5p and averaged 194.1p (-0.2p), while 64 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 173.5p and levelled at 147.9p (+8.6p).

In the rough ring 83 beef cows sold to 196.5p and averaged 133.2p (-1.6p), while 242 dairy cows peaked at 162.5p and levelled at 91.7p (-3.2p). Seven bulls sold to 167.5p and averaged 133.6p (+16.7p).

There were also 2549 prime lambs that sold to £101.80 and 233.3p to average 174.9p (-19.3p).

The 245 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £101 for Texels and average £69.74, while light ewes peaked at £53.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £38.67.
