ACCOUNTANCY giant Deloitte has underlined its growing presence in Scotland by increasing its headcount of partners and directors by 10 to 45 in its last financial year.

The firm, which has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, also recruited 53 graduates and took on 10 school leavers under its BrightStarts programme.

The boost to employee numbers came as Deloitte reported a 13.6 per cent in turnover to £3.04 billion across the UK. Deloitte opened a new office at 110 Queen Street in Glasgow during the period, and announced plans to launch a digital studio in Edinburgh – one of 26 worldwide.

Steve Williams, senior partner for Deloitte in Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: “The last 12 months have been particularly strong for the firm. We’ve achieved substantial growth, despite challenging conditions in the economy.”

He added: “Despite tailwinds from Brexit and the sustained low oil price, we are confident about Scotland’s future and remain committed to the businesses we work with, and the places we work in, across the country.”
