JW Filshill has seen profits and turnover fall amid falling tobacco sales and price deflation across a range of product lines. The Glasgow wholesaler, which supplies the Keystore chain of convenience, has booked profits of £900,000 in the year ended January 31, down from £1.36m the year before. Revenue fell 5.8 per cent to £143m.

Managing director Simon Hannah, the fifth generation of his family to run the business, commented: “The market remains highly competitive but we are well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities we are creating and to return to revenue growth.”

Export sales via JW Filshill International, which supplies craft beer, spirits and other products to markets including Asia Pacific under the Craft Beer Clan of Scotland brand, are continuing to expand in line with expectations, added Mr Hannah.
