From Bermuda to Glasgow
A GLASWEGIAN accountant has relocated back to his home city from Bermuda to join Scottish firm French Duncan.
Iain Walker, who has worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte and KPMG since qualifying as a chartered accountant in 2006, will take on the role of senior manager in French Duncan’s corporate advisory team.
He moved to Bermuda in 2009 where he worked in the corporate finance and valuations department of KPMG before taking on a role as corporate finance and strategy manager at London-listed insurance company Randall & Quilter Investment Holdings
As well as being a chartered accountant, Mr Walker is also a chartered business valuator.
Commenting on Mr Walker’s appointment, Graeme Finnie, managing partner at French Duncan said: “Iain brings with him a huge amount of industry experience and we are proud to have him on board. Iain has over 10 years corporate finance experience working with clients from a range of different countries and sectors. This will add further strength to our team and we are looking forward to introducing Iain to our clients.”

New director for MDG
MDG Group, a business consultancy, has made Annette Welch a director ahead of an expansion into to new offices in Perth.
Ms Welch joined the firm in 2013 in a business development role and helped grow the business from five people in 2013 to a team of ten in 2016.
Prior to joining MDG in 2013, Ms Welch worked in pharmaceutical sales and, latterly, the energy industry. Originally from Northern Ireland, Annette has been settled in Scotland since she first came to study at Dundee University in the late 1980s.
Douglas Reid, managing director at MDG Group, said: "Annette brings with her an exceptional heritage of corporate experience as well as a passion for working with MDG Group's customers to help them improve their bottom lines.”
Mr Reid said Ms Welch’s commitment to customer satisfaction was instrumental in helping achieve the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Award for Customer Service last year.
Ms Welch said: "Over the years we have saved business customers thousands of pounds on the electricity, gas, telecoms and broadband. These can be things that are often brushed aside in business, but they can make a tangible difference to the bottom line, in some cases even saving a company from eventual ruin.”
Raft of promotions at Grant Thornton
ACCOUNTANCY firm Grant Thornton has made a number of promotions within its audit and advisory teams as it prepares for further growth in Scotland.
A total of seven people within the firm’s Scottish practice have been promoted. They include; Paul Burke, who becomes advisory associate director; Gary Whyte who is now advisory manager; Amy Houston, Paul Leck and Emma Corrigan, who each take on the role of audit manager; and Fraser Doak and Stuart MacKay who become audit assistant managers.
