UNITED Auctions sold 40 pedigree Limousin bulls at Stirling on Monday to a top of 8500gns for the reserve overall champion from Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries, while the overall champion from Archie MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth fetched 7000gns.

Others from J Burnett & Sons, Upper Spittalton, Stirling were bid to 8200gns and 7200gns. The final average levelled at £4945 (+£393 on the year for a 66 per cent clearance).

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their annual show and sale of suckled calves and store cattle in Dumfries on Monday. The 300 spring-born suckled calves forward saw heifers sell to £1050 per head and 355.9p per kg to average £598.77 and 222.2p, while bullocks peaked at £1400 and 424.2p to level at £767.46 and 252.2p. Bull calves sold to £600 and 245.5p to average £545 and 215.2p.

In the store cattle section 162 heifers sold to 226.7p and averaged 196.8p, while 280 beef-bred bullocks peaked at 241.9p and levelled at 198.4p. Fifty-five store, B&W bullocks sold to 156.8p and averaged 137.6p, while 13 store bulls peaked at 241.3p and levelled at 208.3p.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 22 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 248p and an average of 224.6p (-4.8p on the week), while nine prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 208p (-2.1p). Seventeen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 155p and averaged 138.9p.

In the rough ring 50 beef cows averaged 116.5p (-8.9p), while 60 dairy cows levelled at 86.9p (+1.1p).

The firm also sold 2246 prime lambs to a top of £93.50 per head and 217.7p per kg to average 162.9p (-7.2p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2443 prime lambs at Ayr on Monday to a top of £92 and 184.2p to average 151.4p (-13.8p).

A large show of 1204 cast sheep saw ewes cheaper on the week due to the vast numbers coming forward nationwide and sold to £114 for a pen of Texels and £54 for Blackfaces.
