LAW firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has consolidated its re-entry into the Aberdeen market with the takeover of local firm The Commercial Law Practice.

Shepherd and Wedderburn initially launched in the city in the mid-2000s but pulled out in 2011.

It began rebuilding its practice earlier this year with the hire of Pinsent Masons corporate partner John Rutherford and the former senior partner of shipping practice Mackinnons, Charles Scott.

The addition of Commercial Law Practice (CLP) takes the firm’s headcount in Aberdeen from two to 16, three of whom are partners.

The firm’s chief executive Stephen Gibb said that “further senior hires” would be added in the new year.

Mr Rutherford, who heads the firm’s Aberdeen office, noted that while the city has been suffering from the downturn in the oil industry there is still strength in the local economy.

“Working in Aberdeen, I certainly understand the current economic challenges facing businesses in the region,” he said.

“However, I also see businesses which are robust and innovative and adapting well to a difficult economic climate.”

Partner Frances Evans is the only member of the CLP team not joining Shepherd and Wedderburn.
