THE Port of Grangemouth has benefited from a buoyant fresh food export season, recording a 30 per cent increase in refrigerated container volumes in the past two months.

The bulk of the produce being handled at the port is Scottish potato seed, which is being exported from farms across Scotland to locations such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Morocco. New destinations include Thailand, China and Namibia.

Port manager Derek Knox said: “This year, we have seen potato seed in particular enjoying a bumper season with Scottish farmers exporting their crop globally resulting in our port’s busiest quarter ever.”
