THE first turbine installed at Atlantis Resources’ Meygen project in the Pentland Firth is now operating at full power, marking another milestone for the group after it began generating power last month.

Each MeyGen turbine is capable of generating 1.5 megawatts of power when the water speed reaches three meters per second.

AIM-listed Atlantis said the move would allow it to validate the financial assumptions of the project.

MeyGen project director, David Taaffe, commented: “It is extremely satisfying to see all of the meticulous planning and preparation come to life and be validated in the field.”
