Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 159 store heifers at Ayr on Thursday to a top of £1200 per head and 241.8p per kg to average £860.79 and 209.7p (-1.9p on the fortnight), while 269 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1460 and 260p to level at £970.28 and 216.8p (-6.9p). Seventy-five store, B&W bullocks sold to £910 and 177.1p to average £660.27 and 139.4p (-2.1p).
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd had 251 store cattle forward at their fortnightly sale in St Boswells on Thursday when heifers sold to £1120 and 223.6p to average 220.8p (-4.1p), while bullocks peaked at £1340 and 267.1p to level at 230p (-0.4p).
C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 5612 prime hoggs in Longtown on Thursday to a top of £109 per head and 268p to average 168.3p (-1.7p on the week).
The firm also had 4440 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £140 for Texels and averaged £77.86 (+£3.09), while light ewes peaked at £69 for Lleyns and levelled at £39 (-£4.18). Rams sold to £126 for a Texel and averaged £71.62.
