RACHEL BARRIE is to replace Billy Walker as whisky maker for The BenRiach Distillery Company following its £285 million acquisition by Bacardi owner Brown-Forman in April 2016.

The portfolio includes BenRiach, The GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh. The group said Mr Walker would continue to support the distilleries through the transition.

Alex Alvarez, chief production officer for Brown-Forman, said Ms Barrie would continue the “excellent Scotch whisky-making tradition fostered by Billy Walker”.

“We take great comfort in knowing Billy will continue with our team over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition for Rachel,” he said.

Ms Barrie has been master blender of Morrison Bowmore Distillers for the last five years where she led whisky creation for Bowmore, Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch.
