Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 114 pedigree Limousin bulls in Carlisle on Saturday to a top of 30,000gns for an October 2015 born bull from the Swalesmoor Partnership, Kedzlie Farm Ltd, Lauderdale. In a flying trade sixteen bulls made five figures, including two that fetched 22,000gns, and 53 bulls in all made more than 5,000gns.

Underlining the strong demand, averages on the year were up by £1058 to a hefty £6668 for the 114 bulls sold ( a 91 per cent clearance).

C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 94 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 242.4p per kg and an average of 198p (-2p on the fortnight), while 93 store bullocks peaked at 257p and levelled at 212.2p (-4.1p). Thirty-three store bulls sold to 244.9p and averaged 206.7p (-31.7p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 1427 prime hoggs forward at Ayr yesterday, that were a poorer show for quality selling to a top of £94 per head and 200.1p per kg to average 163.4p (-6.6p on the week).

The firm also had 720 cast sheep forward, that included a large show of 504 Blackface ewes that sold to £53.50, while the trade for ewes was topped by Texels at £122.50..

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 44 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 241p and an average of 217.9p (+0.9p), while 17 prime bullocks peaked at 234p and levelled at 215.7p (+2.7p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 187p and averaged 186p (no comparison).

In the rough ring 33 beef cows sold to 169p and averaged 133.7p (-0.3p).

There were also 1434 prime hoggs that sold to £90 and 216.3p to average 163.7p (-2p).

A nice show of 365 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £110 for Texel crosses and average £68, while light ewes peaked at £75 for Cheviots and levelled at £42.

The firm also sold 15 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 219.5p and an average of 193p (-16.5p), while 42 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 218.5p and levelled at 191.6p (-3.7p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 152.5p and averaged 143.5p (n/c). Eighteen prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 212.5p and averaged 183p (-9.6p), while 50 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 179.5p and levelled at 154.2p (+0.6p).

In the rough ring 106 beef cows sold to 210.5p and averaged 133p (+6.9p), while 207 dairy cows peaked at 158.5p and levelled at 106.1p (+5.1p). Seven bulls sold to 138.5p and averaged 129.9p (-1.8p).

There were also 2349 prime hoggs forward that sold to £111.80 and 248.4p to average 164.8p (-7.7p).

A small show of 66 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £93.50 for Texels and average £72.87, while light ewes peaked at £50 for Swaledales and levelled at £49.34.
