THE GREEN energy business called “the first step in an energy revolution” by early investor Ian Marchant has raised a further £200,000 in funding, and signed major clients.

Edinburgh-based OnGen offers software that can cut energy bills for businesses by up to half, with the public sector, high energy business users, farmers and funders of renewable projects targeted by its online platform.

Since its launch last summer the company has secured £500,000 of funding from the likes of former SSE chief executive Mr Marchant and the Scottish Investment Bank (SIB).

The latest £200,000 round was led by SIB with a small number of private investors also backing the firm.

The new funding will enable OnGen to add new technologies to its platform, including energy storage and ground source heat pumps.

At the same time the University of Edinburgh and US firm Energy Edge have signed up for OnGen Expert, the firm’s online platform, which enables users to input their current energy usage to generate an in-depth feasibility assessment on what green energy technologies they should adopt.

Commenting on the OnGen platform, Mr Marchant, currently chairman of Wood Group, said: “Putting reliable information in the hands of consumers is the first step on the road to an energy revolution as I believe that the energy system of the future will be far more decentralised and renewable-focused than our current fossil-based system.”
