WOOD Group has won a contract to help maximise oil and gas production from the giant Sakhalin-II development off eastern Russia. The Aberdeen-based oil services firm has been employed to provide brownfield drilling services on the development for five years, with the possibility of the contract being extended for two years. The value has not been disclosed. The award enlarges the scope of the work Wood provides under an existing contract for the Sakhalin Energy Investment Company, whose shareholders include Gazprom, Shell and Mitsubishi. Dave Stewart, who heads the division that will complete the contract, noted Wood Group has been working on the Sakhalin project for 10 years. It has a 200-strong workforce on Sakhalin island.
