Whisky bond proves city’s resilience to wider audience
A FORMER bonded warehouse on the Forth and Clyde canal at Port Dundas has been chosen to launch the city’s new ‘Resilient Glasgow Strategy’ to a global audience.
The Whisky Bond – one of Glasgow’s commercial hubs for creative businesses – was selected due to its growing reputation as a symbol of the city’s revitalisation.
High profile speakers attending the event in the space occupied by tenant Glasgow Sculpture Studios, included Lolita Jackson, deputy head of resilience at New York City Hall.
CLIPPER SETS SAIL
Leading logistics firm Clipper is docking out of its base at East Kilbride and setting sail for a 31,000 sq ft warehouse at an industrial estate in Tannochside.
In a deal negotiated by JLL on behalf of Squarestone Growth, the company has signed a ten year lease at a rental of £5.25 per sq ft.
Paul Coulter, the landlord’s head of asset management, said he had worked closely with the tenant in refurbishing the vacant unit at 6 Bedlay View to suit their specific needs: "The location adjacent to the new M8 extension has really put Tannochside Business Park back on the map.
BEE LINE FOR CAMBUSLANG
The Clydesmill Industrial Estate in Cambuslang is buzzing after signing up Bee Inspired Clothing as its latest tenant.
The firm agreed a new five year lease on 11,342 sq ft, paying £5.75 per sq ft, in a deal arranged by Savills.
Mark Corcoran of the retailer said: "This unit gives us a brilliant platform to further grow our online business, and the timing of this expansion is ideal, with the festive season approaching, which is our busiest period."
Savills director Ross Sinclair said a 26,424 sq ft unit on the fully let estate would become available next spring.
Pharma firms capital move
QUOTIENT Clinical, a provider of early stage and specialist drug development services, has relocated its Scottish base.
The Nottingham headquartered firm has moved from Heriot-Watt University’s research park to lease 6394 sq ft of refurbished space at Haston House, South Gyle, where it has taken a ten year deal. JLL acted for landlord Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust. The 77,000 sq ft property is to undergo a programme of refurbishment.
"West Edinburgh’s growing popularity is evidenced by the calibre of occupiers and demand for space for large requirements upwards of 25,000 sq ft," said Geoff Scott of JLL, who believes tram links have contributed to the area’s success.
TWB’S Fiona MacFadyen said: "A few years ago, when this building became a mushroom factory, it would have been almost unimaginable that this area would become home to exciting fashion, design, art and creative brand names."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
