Alberta in Scottish charm offensive

A senior figure in the Alberta government has urged Scots to take advantage of strong industrial and cultural affinities between Scotland and Canada's booming Western province, and to consider it as a place to work and invest.

On a visit to meet Aberdeen oil industry and services companies prior to an international employers' fair in Glasgow next week, Cal Dallas, below, minister of intergovernmental and international affairs in Alberta's legislative assembly, also said that the province's environmental assurances were winning approval for the controversial multi-billion dollar exploitation of its vast oil sands reserves.
