AMEC has won a £110 million extension to a contract to provide services for BG in the Central North Sea.

The engineering giant will provide services ranging from construction to project management support for all the oil and gas firm's facilities in the area.

While BG has been generating attention for its activity in countries like Brazil, the company says it has one of the most significant exploration and production businesses in the offshore waters of the UK.

This is focused on the Central North Sea, where BG operates assets including the Armada and Lomond platforms.

Scheduled to run to December 2015, the latest award for AMEC extends a contract awarded in 2011.

AMEC, which has headquarters in London, said it had completed some major projects under the contract, including modifying the Armada and North Everest platforms and installing tie backs linking sub-sea wells to production facilities.

The company won its first engineering and construction contract with BG in 2006.

Services firms like AMEC are cashing in on record investment in the North Sea where oil and gas firms are trying to boost output from existing assets and bringing new facilities on stream.

The UK accounted for 16% of BG Group's total production in 2011.
