SEVEN companies across Scotland have triumphed at the inaugural Scottish Business Honours ceremony.
Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) announced the first winners of the scheme, which pits the winners of local Chambers of Commerce awards against each other, at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh last night.
The award for business of the year (more than 25 employees) went to Inverness-based Springfield Properties. The same title, albeit for companies with fewer than 25 staff, was lifted by Star-Dundee.
Stephen Leckie, chief executive of Crieff Hydro, was named entrepreneur of the year after unveiling a £10 million expansion plan under which it acquired the Peebles Hydro and the Park Hotel in the Borders town from McMillan Hotels earlier this year.
Other winners included Eco-Genics (most innovative business), Internet Anywhere (most promising), Barrhead Travel (growing talent) and Mackie's at Taypack (international business).
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce was named the SCC's chamber of the year.
SCC chief executive Liz Cameron said: "All the businesses, from global brands and exporters to one-person owners to family businesses, are a true inspiration enabling us to champion the wealth of our talent and skills that we have right here in Scotland. I am especially proud of the spotlight placed on those businesses that would not normally get the profile or recognition outside of their own communities."
The event, hosted by Kaye Adams, featured a speech by Jim McColl, chief executive of Clyde Blowers Capital.
