OUTSOURCING group Capita has again raided the Scottish technology sector this time snapping up business analytics specialist Barrachd for an undisclosed sum.

Around two years ago it bought Midlothian based training game developer G2G3.

Capita has acquired Barrachd, based in Edinburgh and employing 38, as it looks to expand its capability in analytics.

Barrachd, founded in 2007, uses software to help companies keep track of key processes including financial forecasts and management of resources.

It boasts a strong client base with customers such as Edrington Group, SSE, Aegon, AG Barr, John Menzies and a number of Scottish universities.

Barrachd's current directors Grant Smith, Clark Wilson and Robbie Crawford are staying on and the business is to be integrated into Capita's digital and software solutions division.

Andy Parker, Capita chief executive, said: "Our clients in both the private and public sector are increasingly looking at how they can benefit from analytical technology, both to enhance their customer service but also to explore new markets and opportunities for growth.

"Barrachd has a great record of working with companies to detect, gather and monitor business critical information, helping them to identify problems and solve issues."

G2G3 said last year that it had seen staff numbers more than double to in excess of 80 since being taken over by Capita.

Mr Parker added: "We have made a significant investment in our digital expertise in recent years, and we have a proud record of helping organisations adapt and meet the challenges of the digital age. Our investment in Barrachd further outlines our commitment and aspirations to deliver even greater value to our clients and their customers."
