Centrica 'did not cry wolf on tax hike'

THE head of Centrica's oil and gas exploration and production arm has denied that the utility cried wolf about the tax hike in the 2011 Budget, which it denounced only to make a big UK acquisition months later.

In an interview with The Herald, Jonathan Roger defended Centrica's actions in the wake of the Government's controversial decision to increase the tax on North Sea profits in 2011.

This sparked a furious reaction from industry players in which Centrica played a prominent part.
