CLARK Contracts has had the most successful month for new business in its 37-year history after picking up £11 million worth of orders.

The construction, maintenance and refurbishment business said the contracts it secured in March ranged in value from £120,000 to £4.7m.

The largest deal was with Falkirk Council and will see the company, which operates from premises in Glasgow and Edinburgh, starting the first phase of the Denny town centre regeneration plan.

That will include building 10 retail units, a library, car parking and a new town square.

Also in Falkirk it will build a new retail unit on the site of a former garage for catering company David's Kitchen.

Other public sector wins will see Clark Contracts revamping a vehicle depot in Kilmarnock for East Ayrshire Council while the firm's maintenance division won build, drainage and electrical work from Stirling Council..

Its growing presence in the further education sector is reflected in contracts with Abertay, Edinburgh and Strathclyde universities.

Gordon Cunningham, who has been with the business since 1999 and became its managing director in 2005, said: "In terms of winning new business, this is the most successful month ever in the company's 37 year history.

"We believe this puts us in a strong position to achieve our third consecutive year of growth."

Steve Clark founded the company in 1978.
