ClinTec International, the Glasgow-based clinical research organisation (CRO), is to extend its reach into Turkey.

ClinTec already has a presence in more than 40 countries, and has now said it intends to open an office in Istanbul.

The office will give ClinTec access to a new patient population and consolidate the Scottish CRO's presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, adding to offices in Cairo, Dubai and Beirut.

The announcement coincides with the company's sponsorship of a "Partnerships in Clinical Trials" conference in Istanbul. The conference aims to explore the challenges and opportunities facing companies conducting clinical trials in the MENA region, Turkey and Russia.

Dr Rabinder Buttar, founder and chief executive, said: "The launch of this new office confirms ClinTec International's reputation as a global provider of quality assured clinical research."

Dr Buttar, Businesswomman of the Year in the 2012 Scottish Asian Business Awards, added: "It also reflects the growing significance of Turkey, and the wider MENA region, to the global clinical research market.

"We are delighted to be at the forefront of developing expertise in Turkey and the MENA region as a whole."
