Conference on construction

A pre-Scottish budget conference to look at ways to boost housing and construction takes place next week.

Shadow finance secretary Ken Mackintosh MSP has invited private and public sector leaders to examine models of stimulus from elsewhere in the UK, including the Welsh Government's partnership with local authorities and housing associations

Mr Mackintosh said: "Our economy remains stuck in a double-dip recession and housing in Scotland has suffered with 12,000 builders losing their jobs last year. Yet we know that there is a demand for homes and that investment in housing is a great way to create employment and get the whole economy firing on all cylinders again."
