Contract extension for Wood Group

WOOD Group has won an extension of a contract to provide support services on two North Sea fields for a US oil and gas giant, involving 100 jobs offshore.

Aberdeen-based Wood Group has been appointed to provide maintenance and operations services on the Captain and Alba fields in the Outer Moray Firth for Chevron for another year.

The value of the contract was not disclosed. However, it is likely to have been a multi-million dollar win for Wood Group.

The award covers work on the Captain floating production storage and offloading vessel and the Alba North platform.

In November, Wood Group secured a one-year extension to provide engineering and construction services on the same fields.

Dave Stewart, UK managing director of Wood Group's PSN arm said: "Receiving this extension, on the back of an extension to our engineering and construction services contract, gives us a great platform to maintain our long-term relationship with such an important international client."

Wood Group has won a series of big contracts in the UK North Sea in recent months, amid booming activity in an area where oil and gas firms are trying to maximise production to meet strong global demand.

In January, Chevron gave the go-ahead for the development of the Alder field 100 miles off Scotland, which will involve an outlay of more than £200 million.

In November, however, Chevron said its planned £6 billion Rosebank development, west of Shetland, was not currently economically attractive. Chevron has said it was still in the design phase of Rosebank.
