Developing countries set good example

Scottish firms hesitant about entering overseas markets should look to exporters in developing countries, the chairman of CBI Scotland will tell the employers' body's annual dinner next week.

Nosheena Mobarik, a member of the Pakistan-Britain Trade and Investment Forum who has been awarded the president of Pakistan's Medal of Excellence for her work in promoting international trade relations, cited the example of "people of little or no education in India, Pakistan and China who have the belief in their products and their ability to get out there and sell them overseas".

Co-founder with her husband, Iqbal of the international software company, M Technologies, Mobarik will use her speech at Thursday's dinner in Glasgow to press the Scottish Government for "focused action" on what CBI Scotland sees as barriers to growth, with education, skills and transport highlighted along with export promotion.

"A lot more needs to be done," she says. "This will take more vision and leadership unconstrained by electoral concerns."
