FANDUEL, the fantasy sports business launched in Edinburgh, expects to double employee numbers in Scotland this year after achieving record revenues in the last quarter.
The company, which allows people to pit their team selection skills against thousands of others online, had $37 million (£25m) revenues in the last quarter of 2014, up from $7.4m in the same period in the preceding year.
The growth reflects a huge increase in the active player base which increased to more than one million in the last three months of 2014, from 193,000.
Chief executive Nigel Eccles said: "FanDuel is proving so popular that our main challenge now is meeting customer demand."
He added: "In 2015 we expect to double our headcount in the UK."
Fanduel currently employs around 60 people in areas like software engineering and testing in a development centre in Edinburgh.
It plans to open another centre in Glasgow in coming months and is in the final stages of selecting a city centre office.
Launched by Mr Eccles and four friends in 2009, Fanduel employs around 60 people in New York where the company has its corporate headquarters and the sales and marketing operations are based. It also expects a big increase in US employee numbers this year.
The company focuses on the US market, where there are around 40 million active players. Fantasy sports are considered games of skill rather than gambling in most US states.
Fanduel has developed games featuring six sports including basketball, American Football and Hockey.
The company raised $70m expansion funding last year.
