A family run traditional blacksmith business has fallen into provisional liquidation with the loss of all jobs just weeks after the collapse of one of its biggest customers.

Fenwick Blacksmiths, founded in 1904 and based in Dundee, made gates, ladders, railings and various types of wrought iron work.

It was also involved in making structural steel for buildings staircases and balconies and doing core cutting for floors, walls and concrete.

Its turnover was said to be around £800,000 with its most recent annual return at Companies House showing it was wholly owned by the Ingram family.

The recent administration of building firm Muirfield Contracts, which is being wound up with the loss of more than 360 staff and sub-contractor roles, was cited as the major factor in Fenwick's problems.

Provisional liquidator Tom MacLennan, of FRP Advisory, said: "Fenwick Blacksmiths was a highly regarded specialist blacksmith business with a good customer base. The administration of Muirfield Contracts meant that the company was unable to continue trading.

"The company has been closed with immediate effect and unfortunately all 14 staff have been made redundant. This is a difficult time for the staff and we will provide as much support to them as possible."

Mr MacLennan said FRP would be selling Fenwick's assets which include property, vehicles, plant and machinery.
