Green Bank invests in wind farm

THE UK Green Investment Bank has made its first direct equity investment in offshore wind.

The bank, which has its headquarters in Edinburgh, is paying £57.5 million for a 24.95% stake in Rhyl Flats Wind Farm from companies owned by RWE.

The 25-turbine site off the north Wales coast has been running since March 2010 and has a 90-megawatt capacity. RWE is retaining majority ownership and plans to use the proceeds from the sale to invest in further renewable energy projects in the UK.
