The Herald is joining forces with Scottish Enterprise next month to present a special session for businesses on increasing exports through e-commerce.

The theme of the seminar will focus on giving Scottish companies the knowledge required to develop international sales online.

Last year, a record number of Scottish businesses realised the potential for selling their products or services into international markets to grow their business and contribute to the economy.

Scottish Enterprise is offering tailored expert help to enable companies in diverse sectors to reach new international customers online by making the most of digital and social media channels.

Attending the event on Wednesday March 12 will allow business to discover the opportunities and challenges they face and hear from Scottish companies which have successfully grown their business online.

UK e-commerce exports are set to hit £28 billion by 2020 with UK retailers enjoying a trade surplus that outstrips competitors such as the US and Germany.

A report by OC&C Strategy Consultants and Google found that in 2013 the UK's trade surplus was £720 million.

The event will be followed by a networking lunch where attendees will have the opportunity to meet the speakers and Smart Exporter's advisers and ICT specialists.
