BUILDING contractor ISG has won three Edinburgh-based contracts, worth a total of £11.1 million, in the education sector.

The largest deal, at £6.6 million, was awarded by property developer McLaren to create 138 student flats and includes the conversion of former office development Elliott House. It is set for summer completion.

The AIM-listed construction firm has secured £3.1 million to refurbish five-storey building Ashworth 2, at the University of Edinburgh's College of Science and Engineering campus, to provide office and laboratory space. The work is to finish in the summer of 2016 and is being staggered to allow vital research facilities to continue.

And ISG is to carry out work worth £1.1 million to replace independent school Edinburgh Academy's hockey pavilion with a "modern, high-specification facility incorporating six changing rooms, referee's changing room and a covered area for spectators".

Andy McLinden, ISG's Scotland regional managing director, said all three projects are "welcome additions to our broad education-sector expertise". He also said: "Key to our success is a collaborative and highly-disciplined approach to working within challenging live environments, which are core specialisms for our business."

In February the company won a £1.3 million contract to upgrade the University of Glasgow's School of Engineering, and in the summer it landed a £3.1 million deal to renovate office space for Scottish Widows Investment Partnership.
