Kingfisher chief calls for state stimulus

IAN Cheshire, chief executive of B&Q owner Kingfisher, called for government initiatives to stimulate the British economy after the company missed first-half profit forecasts.

Kingfisher saw pre-tax earnings for the six months to July 28 fall 15.5% on last year to £371 million, around £20m less than the City had expected.

Kingfisher has 32 outlets of its do-it-yourself chain B&Q in Scotland, including a former Focus DIY store in Arbroath, which opened at the beginning of April.
