The joint venture between Mackie's of Scotland and Taypack has appointed two new directors as it exploits continued growth in the premium potato crisps market both at home and overseas.

Perthshire-based Mackie's at Taypack is about to double production capacity with the opening of a new purpose-built factory in Errol, having evolved rapidly since its formation four years ago. Mackie's Potato Crisps are stocked by all the major retailers in Scotland and have recently achieved national listings with Asda. Exports are also on the march with the product available in more than 20 countries.

The group expects turnover to jump 48% this year to £4.6m, and it has set a target of turning Mackie's into a "global brand with sales in excess of £35m by 2020".

The new directors are Ronnie Wilson, promoted from commercial manager to group commercial director, and Martin Brown, most recently operations director with subsidiary Taylors Transport, who becomes group operations director.

Mr Wilson said: "We have made a number of major steps forward in the past year – particularly in terms of entering new markets – and we've got some fantastic plans for growing even further in the months and years ahead."

George Taylor, managing director for Taylors Food Group and Mackie's at Taypack, said: "These appointments mark a significant milestone in the development of our business. For a young company growing as quickly as we are, it is imperative to have the right people in place to manage this growth effectively."
