The company has sought to become more efficient and green by investing in wind turbines and solar panels at its Rothienorman farm.

Bank of Scotland is supporting Mackies, which exports ice- cream to South Korea and the UAE, to buy equipment to process honeycomb.

The raw honeycomb will be supplied by a beekeeper and prepared using the new equipment. Three staff are being added to the 70-strong team.

Mac Mackie, managing director, said: "We are constantly striving to lessen our impact on the environment, for ethical reasons but also to gain real business benefits, such as increased cost savings and reducing reliance on third-party suppliers."
