MCTEAR Contracts has said it expects to save £75,000 over the next two years thanks to a mobile app developed by Hotcake Digital Media.

The housing contractor said that the app allows it to log work and have a paperless audit trail.

Following a trial all 100 of its staff will now use the app to book jobs, fill in daily worksheets, update check lists and get electronic signatures when tasks are completed.

Jamie Mowat, operations director at Wishaw based McTear, said: "As a contractor to local authority housing, using mobile technology within our sector is very pioneering.

"The pilot results surpassed our expectations and we are confident that the app will help the business save time and money as well as increase efficiencies and free up vital resources."

Coatbridge based Hotcake, launched in December through support from Business Gateway Lanarkshire, said it is launching an app for estate agent McEwan Fraser which will allow its clients to pay fees, track viewings and see if offers have been lodged.

The software company is soon to provide an app for customers of Italian restaurant chain Cecchinis which will make it easier for customers to book tables and order food online.

Sean McKeown, managing director at Hotcake, said: "In today's digital age businesses are switching onto the fact that mobile applications can be used to increase efficiencies."

Mr McKeown said the businesses is hopeful of breaking into the education sector in Scotland following a six-month pilot of an app with North Lanarkshire Council which aims to improve communications between schools, pupils and parents.

Tom Pettigrew, from Business Gateway Lanarkshire said: "Schools can be running up to six different systems to cover all aspects of communication - Hotcakes' app can replace them all with two-way communication at the touch of a button. "
