More men starting businesses

RESEARCH by Royal Bank of Scotland has found that the rate of self-employment among women has remained half that of men since the early 1970s.

RBS said that in 2011, more than 10% of men were in the early stages of setting up a business, compared with only 5% of women.

While women make up 48% of the working population, they make up 26% of the self-employed
