A SCOTTISH family business is launching its Mrs Tilly's fudge range into the French market this spring, and estimates it could sell more than 100,000 units in the first year.

Manufacturer Tilly Confectionery, which is based at Larbert near Falkirk, said its range of five, 150-gramme Scottish fudge products would go on sale across France next month.

Joint managing director Peter Paterson said the move, which forms part of a concerted export drive by Tilly Confectionery, would see Mrs Tilly's fudge stocked in French retailers including Monoprix and E. Leclerc.

The Mrs Tilly's ranges of tablet, fudge and macaroon are a common sight in Scottish retail outlets.

Tilly Confectionery has recently launched its products in Canada, the US, Germany, and Switzerland.

The company said that the move into the French market "forms part of an overall strategic sales drive by this ambitious Scottish family business".

Mr Paterson said: "Recent export successes have allowed us to recognise the potential of our products in global markets, and we have worked closely with agencies including Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International and Scotland Food & Drink to develop a strategy for introducing our brand to new international markets and consumers."

He added: "We are committed to developing our business not only at home but on the international stage and we are proudly taking our deliciously indulgent Mrs Tilly's Scottish sweeties to a global audience. This latest launch into the French market is extremely exciting for us, and will see our products on the shelves of some of the biggest and best retailers across France, including Monoprix and E. Leclerc."
