PORT of Grangemouth said it handled a record 4,200 containers this week, exceeding its previous record by more than 200.

Scotland's largest container port, owned by Forth Ports, said a good potato seed season and higher whisky and white spirit cargos boosted the pre-Christmas period, which is traditionally busy for the container business.

Derek Knox, port manager at Grangemouth, said: "We have had a busy week in Grangemouth and the team has worked hard with our customers to make sure we deliver our usual efficient service."
