Next posts 10% rise in pre-tax profit but reveals sales lull

LORD Simon Wolfson, chief executive of clothing retailer Next said he will not know until next month whether a sales lull in August and early September was a blip, as spooked investors sent its shares down 7%.

Next, which has 38 stores in Scotland, posted a 10.2% rise in pre-tax profit to £251 million for the six months to July 28, on revenue of £1.6 billion, some 4.8% ahead of the previous year.
