Richard Cook lost to the shadow defence secretary in East Renfrewshire even though it was one of the Tories' top targets.
Now he is stepping away from politics and setting up new venture, Cook Consulting, after securing four research contracts in Pakistan's commercial capital, Karachi, looking into household rubbish, sewage and desalination.
