Plan for Lees buyout attracts union support

MANAGERS of Lanarkshire confectioner Lees Foods have received the backing of their employees' trade union in their effort to take the macaroon manufacturer off the stock market in the face of opposition from a group of small investors.

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (Usdaw), representing much of Lees' 270-strong workforce at its Lees of Scotland factory at Coatbridge and Waverley Bakery at Cambuslang, said the proposed £5.6 million buyout by the directors' Randotte vehicle would be in the best interests of its members.
