AN office fit-out business has won £2 million of business in the first three months of its trading year and says it expects to reach its highest turnover since before the recession.

Scotwood Interiors has projected revenue in excess of £7m in its current financial year, which runs until the end of January and marks the company's 50th anniversary.

Joint managing director Douglas Kerr said the business has attracted a number of new clients as well as taking on projects for existing customers which are growing or revamping existing premises.

He said: "We have found the market has picked up and the fit-out business is coming back. We think we are probably picking up a bit more than our fair share at the moment.

"Throughout the last four years we have managed to produce profits and our cashflow is pretty positive as well."

Mr Kerr, who runs the company with fellow joint managing director James Scott, said pre-tax profits were into six-figures in the most recently completed financial year.

Among the customers the business is working for at present is fast-growing travel search engine Skyscanner.

Scotwood has recently completed a project for Skyscanner at its Quartermile office in Edinburgh.

Along with that it has recently started work on another floor at the company's base in central Glasgow.

Mr Kerr said: "This is repeat business for us which is great for us.

"We have piggy-backed on their expansion, which is fantastic."

East Kilbride-based Scotwood has also secured a £300,000 contract with US company Vet Solutions, which provides practice management systems for veterinary practices, ahead of its move into the Orchard Brae area of Edinburgh.

In Glasgow it is also working on a £150,000 project for software company Blackbaud which is expanding into the basement of Kintyre House on West George Street in the city centre.

The bulk of Scotwood's work is being done across the central belt of Scotland.

However, Mr Kerr said the business has recently picked up an order for supported housing provider Home Group, which is based in Dundee.

Another project also saw staff travelling to Derby for long time client and call centre operator WebHelp. That was to set up a new client area within the existing building.

Mr Kerr, who has been with Scotwood since 1989, said the company also continues to pick up contracts from Babcock, including at the Faslane and Coulport naval bases.

He said: "If the client knows you have done a good job for them elsewhere and you can be competitive then they are quite happy to [use you again]."

Scotwood, which had a DIY centre in Busby until it relocated to East Kilbride in 1988, is also regularly employed by facilities management giants Mitie and Arthur McKay.

As a result it worked on a refurbishment carried out at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for Arthur McKay.

Scotwood has also been involved in Scottish Government work around the country on behalf of Mitie.

Mr Kerr said: "We do a huge amount of work with them. There is nothing major but lots of good, steady small things."

Scotwood retains a core staff of 40 people and has already taken on an apprentice this year.

Mr Kerr said: "When we do get busy we take on a couple of teams of sub-contractors. We like to have our own staff on jobs as much as possible.

"We have re-branded as well so are just rolling out new uniforms for everyone which will hopefully give a bit of pride of appearance on site."

To celebrate the company's 50th anniversary Scotwood is hosting events and taking part in a number of fundraising activities.

It intends to give proceeds from those to Erskine, MS Society Scotland and Epilepsy Scotland
