THE Quartermile office development in central Edinburgh has poached two major tenants who will bring in around 200 workers from elsewhere in the city.

Fund manager Investec and flights comparison website, Skyscanner, are both in negotiations to relocate to the new offices at Quartermile One, on the former site of the Royal Infirmary at Lauriston Place.

Both companies are moving because they want to consolidate two offices into one. Investec is bringing about 50 people from its Wealth and Management office on George Street and the Haymarket offices of fund manager Williams de Broe, which it bought last year.

However, the approximately 10,000sqft it will occupy at Quartermile will be enough for about twice that number, which will prompt speculation that the group might seek to increase its presence in the city in future.

Skyscanner has about 30 staff in an office in Princes Street and another 110 at its traditional-style Edinburgh headquarters on Waterloo Place, which it has decided to swap for the more modern Quartermile. It is said to be taking on 15,000 to 20,000sqft.

The group recently announced that it has brought in Mark Logan from Cisco as chief operating officer and Shane Corstorphine, previously head of performance at Barclays in the UK and Ireland, as finance director.

Quartermile agents CBRE and Eric Young now have only one floor left to let in the 57,000sqft building. Other tenants include law firm Maclay Murray & Spens. Neighbouring Quartermile Two, which has more space to let, has Morton Fraser and Gladedale, the property firm that originally oversaw the development.

A spokesman for Skyscanner said: "We definitely want to move teams currently in two locations into a single office. Quartermile is one of the options we are investigating."

Investec declined to comment.
